Tempur-Pedic provides life-changing sleep via some of the highest quality mattresses available on the market. In fact, Tempur-Pedic is the most highly recommended bed in America. Want a bed that responds to your snoring automatically? Or, one that keeps you cool? Tempur-Pedic delivers.

It’s true that quality costs. And even bargain hunters still choose to shop Tempur-Pedic for its 90-night trial and 10-year warranty. Yet, is the checkout process failing to convert these bargain shoppers? We could test that.

The Opportunity: Empty Coupon Code Field Could Cause Shoppers to Leave the Cart

Many consumers are looking for simple ways to save on purchases large and small. This is especially true with more expensive purchases, such as a high-quality mattress. Currently, Tempur-Pedic offers a coupon code field on the cart page, but it’s empty.

An empty coupon code field results in shoppers leaving the cart in search of a coupon code on the Tempur-Pedic website or others. Unfortunately, some shoppers may get frustrated if they’re unable to find a code and may decide to wait until discounts are available or return to a competitor.

The Control

Customers may have a good experience with the website, but may leave the page searching for a Promo Code and not return.

Our Hypothesis: Auto-Applying Discounts Will Keep Customers in the Checkout Process

According to a study completed by PayPal and comScore, 27% of survey respondents would abandon their carts to search for a coupon code. And, according to Namogoo, the inability to find a coupon code is one of the top reasons online consumers abandon their carts in 2021.

That’s not all. In addition to a lack of coupon code, 46% of consumers have abandoned their cart completely due to an invalid or expired code. And a survey conducted by Blippr found that 36% of coupon code users will choose to purchase their items elsewhere if they don’t have an available code to use.

The Potential Fix: Auto-Applying Active Coupon Codes in Cart

We would begin our test by simply adding an automated coupon code module to the cart page. This module would automatically apply any active discounts to each purchase, eliminating the coupon code search.

We hypothesize this change would keep customers in their carts through checkout, resulting in increased AOV, conversion rates and customer retention. We also believe it could decrease bounce rate and abandonment rates.

The Variation

Actively applying current coupons during checkout will increase the overall purchase rate for Tempur-Pedic.
